Arts and Culture in Boca Raton

The Boca Raton area contains several performing arts and cultural venues, plus an arts festival that is quickly becoming a staple attraction. The Festival of the Arts BOCA is held each year at the Mizner Park Amphitheater and features major artists like violinist Joshua Bell and author Salman Rushdie.  Throughout the year you can see Broadway shows, opera, ballet and concerts at the nearby Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The Showtime Dance & Performing Arts Theatre is a great place to see performances and activities. You can see ballet at the Boca Ballet Theatre Company or enjoy the music at the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia.

Museums in Boca Raton

As a leading cultural institution in South Florida, the Boca Raton Museum of Art features historic artwork and current work by both international and local. The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is well known as a center for Japanese art and culture.

The Boca Raton area also offers many museums to suit the tastes of families and children, such as the South Florida Science Museum. Not far from Boca Raton, the museum highlights interactive exhibits, aquariums, and a planetarium. The Children's Museum of Boca Raton is your best bet for a wide variety of programs, exhibits, activities and special events for families. Kids of all ages will enjoy the International Museum of Cartoon Art, with more than 150,000 pieces of original cartoon artwork on display.  Exhibits include animations, newspaper strips, comic book art, editorial cartoons, caricatures, and book and magazine illustrations.

Boca Raton is a great place to shop. In Mizner Park alone, you will find boutiques, retail shops, dining, music, events, museums, and movies. The oldest shopping mall in Boca Raton, the Royal Palm Palace, houses 80 shops in quiet courtyards. Boca Raton even has a center for high fashion on Worth Avenue with gourmet restaurants and art galleries.

Being a tropical paradise, there is much to do outdoors in Boca Raton. The warm sunny climate and Atlantic coast setting offer opportunities for various water sports at the nearby Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic beaches. Families will find something for everyone at Sugar Sand Park including a science center, carousel and pavilions for private functions.
